Balmoral Knitwear has the widest range of knitwear for schoolwear, says Mike Carden of Balmoral Knitwear.

He adds: “I think we are the only supplier to be able to supply, for example, Teflon-treated wool-acrylic, wool-nylon, 100% acrylic and cotton-acrylic school pullovers and cardigans to our schoolwear customers.”

Balmoral operates a stock service of school knitwear in a range of shades in its highly rated TPA 100% acrylic, Teflon-treated 50% wool 50% acrylic, and 50% cotton 50% acrylic. For stock styles, there is no minimum order level.

But a large part of Balmoral’s offering is bespoke manufacture for schoolwear. Balmoral holds yarn stocks in hundreds of colours, and has access to spinners’ yarn shades in thousands of colours. “We are the only UK knitwear manufacturer with access to the library of wool-blend shades held by a yarn spinner in Italy who keeps cones of yarn in stock in about 3,000 shades. That means we can match stripe colours, for example, by bringing in a single cone of yarn. Or we can bring in a cone to make a sample,” says Mike.

Balmoral also manufactures heavier weight knitwear, and is enlarging its capacity because of demand. “Our heavyweight seven gauge sweaters – whether cricket sweaters for school teams or traditional school pullovers – are increasingly popular. We make them to order in our customers’ own shades or styles, with low minimums and short lead-times,” says Mike. “We also make bespoke school scarves and hats using the same yarn as the pullovers and cardigans. It’s a great combination.”
