Activewear trends in 2020

Global fashion search platform Lyst has outlined the top activewear trends for 2020. Here we take a look at these trends.

There are several key trends that Lyst has highlighted as being big in 2020. This is the result of comparing more than 104 million shoppers across 12,000 fashion brands.

SK064

Perfect leggings

Leggings that sculpt the body are the most wanted workout bottoms right now. Customers are using searching for ‘shaping’, ‘lifting’, and ‘sculpting’ to find the perfect pair.

The SK064 Women’s Leggings from SF (Skinnifit) are a perfect example of this trend. They feature an elasticated waist, shaped fit and a seamless outside leg. They are a great fashion staple and ideally suited for any customer.

JC078

Pockets

What modern fitness fanatic doesn’t want a place to store their keys or their phone? Lyst reports that activewear has evolved into balancing functionality and fashion with a 180% increase on searches for ‘pockets’, and a 76% rise in searches for ‘zip leggings’.

The new for 2020 Girle Cool Dynamic Leggings (JC078) are the ultimate in fitness fashion. They make a statement while providing high performance. The thigh pockets are ideal for stowing away media and keys, while the wicking fabrics keep the wearer comfortable and dry.

Eco activewear

Eco-conscious activewear is one the biggest trends at the moment and is only expected to grow. Searches for ‘sustainable activewear’ are at an all time high, up 151% compared to the previous year.

Stedman is one brand working hard in this arena. Its new Recycled Sports-T Reflect for men and women features not only an athletic design with contrast seams and heathered colours but also reflecting tapes on front and back, ensuring optimum visibility during your evening runs in low light conditions. To help keep our oceans clean, it’s made from four recycled plastic bottles per T shirt. It offers all advantages of Active-Dry polyester: This sustainable sports T shirt is quick-drying, moisture-wicking and breathable.

Other trends

High shine and coated leggings are having a big fashion moment with searches for ‘black coated leggings’ up 250% since mid-November. And after Jennifer Lopez herself was spotted in a pair of metallic rose gold leggings in December, searches for ‘metallic leggings’ went through the roof.

In a throwback to the ‘80s, the all-in-one jumpsuit is also set to make a comeback. Demand for the long versions and shorter leotards collectively grew 83% in 2019 and has increased an additional 21% since the beginning of January.
