DuPont has announced that its Cyrel FAST platemaking system has been officially recognised for cutting energy use by 20% and has received the Certified Energy Savings recognition.
The certification, awarded by independent body GreenCircle, confirms that the machine’s process uses significantly less energy than traditional solvent-based methods. The findings are based on testing over a 96hr production cycle.
Unlike conventional systems, Cyrel FAST does not rely on chemical solvents. This removes the need for handling and disposing of hazardous materials, helping to reduce environmental impact while also improving workplace safety.
DuPont says the system is not only greener, but faster too. It can produce printing plates up to 75% quicker than older methods, while still delivering consistent, high-quality results.
The company also reports major environmental gains, including a reduction in harmful emissions by up to 99.8% and a 48% drop in overall climate impact compared to solvent processes.
With increasing pressure on the print industry to cut energy use and emissions, the certification gives printers and brands added confidence in adopting cleaner technologies without sacrificing performance.
Tucker Norton, vice president and general manager of printing and films, said: “Cyrel FAST has redefined what sustainable, responsible platemaking looks like through its completely solvent‑free process.
“Not only does the system simplify operations, but by eliminating the need to handle, distil, and dispose of washout solvents, it also significantly reduces environmental burden while providing a cleaner, safer working environment.”
