Russell didn’t just perfect the sweatshirt; the company invented it back in 1920 to replace the considerably less comfortable woollen garments commonly used for team sports and exercise at the time. So it’s hardly surprising it has a collection called Authentic Sweats.

Capturing the spirit of the original sweat by bringing it right up to date, the brand’s three Authentic styles are anything but old fashioned, featuring soft luxury fabric and details such as flat chunky drawcords, YKK zips and MP3 earphone access.

Russell’s Authentic Sweats are a bit different too, as most other sweats have two layers of fabric, but the Authentics have three. Made from 80% combed ring spun cotton, 20% polyester (280gsm) the overall effect is a luxurious feel, which has to be felt to be believed. Plus, the 100% cotton face make them ideal for decoration, critical for sports teams who need to embellish logos, names and emblems.

The 262 Authentic Sweatshirt is an old school favourite. Designed with a straighter cut for a more contemporary look, this style has set-in sleeves with slimmer shoulders and arms. Available in eight core colours and from size XS-3XL, it is a great all-rounder.

For a more formal environment then Russell’s range of Knitwear is easy to wear and easycare. The 710M and 710F V-Neck Knitted Pullover, the 715F Ladies V-Neck Fitted Cardigan and the 716 V-Neck Sleeveless Pullover are classic and smart styles, perfect for layering over a shirt or polo. Made from 50% cotton and 50% acrylic cottonblend, they wash well at 40°C and can be tumbled dried.
