Resolute has been working in the background on a number of projects in connection with the production launch of its R-Jet 6 industrial DTG printer. A new range of direct to screen and DTG hybrid systems are due to make their debut at Printwear & Promotion LIVE! 2018.
To go with the R-Jet 6 hybrid system Resolute has developed a special water-based white screen printing ink. Without adding retarders the ink stays open in the mesh longer but prints and cures in the normal way. It is specially formulated to accept the R-Jet 6’s unique DTG CMYK ink developed and manufactured in the UK. The special hybrid ink will be available exclusively from Resolute and released early 2018.
R-Jet 6 hybrid
The R-Jet 6 industrial DTG printer is available with or without hybrid capabilities and uses a slightly different configuration of its 12 ink channels used to print in traditional DTG mode.
Being able to make the screen on the same device that delivers the CMYK is unique. To Resolute’s knowledge it is the only system available capable of doing this. A full hybrid R-Jet 6 consists of eight channels of CMYK for speed while retaining high quality, the other four channels are used to image the under base directly onto a screen up to 1050mm x 660mm. The image area on the R-Jet 6 allows for two full sized T shirts to be printed in a single pass, of course in hybrid mode garments are printed individually due to the screen printing process. A blisteringly fast CMYK DTG printer with full hybrid ability and a DTS screen maker in one system is yet another exclusive industry first from Resolute DTG.
Screen Mate Pro
Using the same chassis as the R-Jet 6, currently undergoing beta testing is a range of standalone DTS (direct to screen) systems. The new DTS systems perform outstandingly well over the current market alternatives with a handsome saving on the cost of ownership.
Screen Mate and Screen Mate Pro both use a specially designed UV blocking ink which achieves in most cases a UV block reading of 4.0. Traditional film positives can struggle to achieve the Screen Mates high UV blocking ratio. Benefits of using the Screen Mate DTS systems are cleaner halftones and pre-registered separations on different sized screens cutting down on press setup times. Both models benefit from Tri-Loc style screen clamps included with pneumatic clamps available for most press types at an additional cost.
Maintenance costs are also kept down to a minimum, the Screen Mate uses a thermal print head which is included in the price of the UV block ink and also disposable.
The Screen Mate Pro is available with either one twin channel Piezo print head or two, this offers a speed over cost choice depending on how many screens are produced on a daily basis. The average cost to produce a screen on the Pro version is .05p, this is based on an A3 image at a true 600dpi in under 60 seconds per screen.
Both systems are currently testing a new specially developed two pack ink system to achieve instant drying, this reduces dot gain and allows for optimum density directly onto the emulsion whilst aiding a clean washout once exposed. Spotting out and dust under the films are a thing of the past when using a Screen Mate.
