Leeds-based Awesome Merchandise has been named among the 100 small businesses in the UK to be celebrated by Small Business Saturday, the UK’s dedicated day for small businesses.
Founded in 2005, Awesome Merchandise has grown from a cramped student bedroom to 15,000sq ft of industrial space. It makes 200 customised products in-house and ships these to more than 40,000 customers worldwide.
Founder Luke Hodson says: “We are passionate about small business. We started 10 years ago with just £300, and know firsthand the trials, tribulations, and triumphs that come with running a small business. We love that every day our customers are using our products to promote their own small businesses and independent endeavours. Our team members are vocal supporters of independent business, and a number of them have side projects themselves, which we think is great. Finally, we love to use other small businesses ourselves – both locally, and further afield.”
Mr Hodson adds that Awesome Merchandise wants to use the opportunity provided by Small Business Saturday, which takes place on December 5, to help promote what other small businesses are doing.
“An important marketing tool for a lot of small businesses is an active social media presence, and we will be highlighting Small Business Saturday across our social media channels and through our email marketing to really maximise awareness. We are also looking to put on an event with other small business in Leeds, and showcase what some of our customers are doing around Small Business Saturday,” he adds.
Small Business Saturday is already the UK’s most successful small business campaign. Last year 16.5 million adults went out to support a small business on Small Business Saturday with 64% of the UK aware of the campaign.
