Epson named among top 100 global innovators for seventh consecutive year

Epson has been recognised as a global innovator for the seventh consecutive year by Clarivate Analytics.

Those named in the list exhibit consistently strong performance in successfully obtaining rights to their innovation, seeking wide protection and global markets for potentials products and services based on that innovation and are recognised by their peers as creating leading innovation for others to build on.

Epson regularly files high volumes of patent applications and had good success this year in converting these to granted patents. Epson also showed good performance in global filing of inventions within the US, Japan, China and Europe.

In the patent rankings for 2016, Epson ranked 7th in Japan for the number of patents awarded, 15th in the US, and 16th in China (among foreign companies). In projectors and inkjet printers, the company is among the leaders in the industry in terms of patent quantity and quality. Epson is proud to call itself a world-class IP company.

Toshiya Takahata, executive officer and general administrative manager of Epson’s Intellectual Property Division, said: “Epson is honoured to have been selected for inclusion in the Top 100 Global Innovators list for the seventh consecutive year. Epson’s business strategies and intellectual property strategies are closely linked under our Epson 25 Corporate Vision. The acquisition of high-quality patents that contribute to our business is a high priority for us. We are constantly seeking to realise products and services that exceed the expectations of our customers and society, and believe we have been honoured as a global innovator out of an appreciation for our research and development efforts and intellectual property activities. Moving forward, we will continue to develop intellectual property that underpins the creation of competitive products.”

Epson is one of only 37 organisations to have been recognised for the seventh year in a row since the inception of the Clarivate Analytics 2017 Top 100 Global Innovators programme in 2011.
