Bring your pattern design to life

Roland DG UK has launched a textile design competition in collaboration with internationally-acclaimed surface pattern designer and illustrator, Rachael Taylor and Make it in Design.

The XT Competition will focus on the production of repeating patterns for use in fashion and interior décor settings.

Attendees will be invited to produce a repeating pattern that will then be brought to life on the Texart XT-640, and sewn into a fashion dress to be displayed at Roland DG trade shows as well as Creative Centres across Europe.

The fashion dress will be manufactured and produced by R A Smart. Along with being a Roland DG authorised dealer for the Texart range of textile products, R A Smart has worked closely with many educational establishments.

World-famous surface pattern designer and illustrator Rachael Taylor, co-founder of Make it in Design, will be judging the winning pattern. She said: “What makes a striking and winning design for me is an innovative approach that injects a unique style, personality, creative flair and confident use of colour.”

As well as the winner’s pattern being physically produced, the top three competition entrants will win the following:

1st place winner:

  • Modules 1 – 3 from The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design.
  • A free place on all three tracks at Winter School starting January 2017.

2nd place prize:
