SPYDER III is the evolution of EXILE’s popular SPYDER II DTS system, which has revolutionised screen making by creating the ‘digital screen-room’ concept of direct – computer to screen imaging with digital image placement and registration.
The SPYDER III uses a Xerox industrial inkjet print-head using water-dispersible black ‘phase-change’ ink with exceptional optical density for UV blocking. The ink is solid at room temperature, but is completely water-soluble for easy washout. The dye-based ink avoids problems of pigment settling in the print-head and the ink re-solidifies on the screen immediately after imaging to produce clean half-tones with minimal dot gain, making it vastly superior to conventional water based inkjet CtS solutions.
The artwork is applied digitally, with absolute accuracy, directly onto the emulsion. This eliminates the film positive and streamlines screen production. During exposure, no vacuum is required, so pin-holing is almost completely eliminated.
The new Xerox print-head produces a much smaller physical dot size than previous phase-change systems and produces much better edge definition. Two print mode settings are supported – a standard (fast) print setting of 900dpi for typical textile screen print applications and a high resolution 1200x1200dpi option for superior image quality with industrial screen print applications in mind.
The SPYDER III prints typical T shirt screens in under a minute, over 2sq ft per minute, Even at 1200dpi… 4x the resolution of the previous SPYDER II model, the SPYDER III boasts an imaging speed of 1.5sq ft per minute on to any screen emulsion.
The SPYDER III includes conventional tri-lock or optional MHM pin registration. The combination of mechanical registration and digital image placement eliminates human error and translates into significant reductions in press setup times and dramatic increases in screen-room productivity.
